AC Milan sit atop the Serie A table after an emphatic and convincing 2-0 Sunday win at the San Siro over a Lazio side that was in-form before the international break. A goal in either half sent the red-hot Rossoneri to the summit through three games, building momentum ahead of their Champions League clash with Liverpool midweek on Paramount+.
With Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the bench and Olivier Giroud out, Milan dominated the entire first half yet couldn’t break down Maurizio Sarri’s backline until the final moments. Rafael Leão scored the winner in the 45th minute after settling the ball superbly inside the box before placing it to the left side of the goal and past an out-stretched Pepe Reina.
Milan actually had the chance to make it 2-0 after the break on a penalty kick, but Franck Kessie tried to be creative with his run-up and touch, knocking it off the crossbar.
The second half was a bit more balanced but still Milan were the better side, creating 21 total shots across the 90 minutes compared to Lazio’s eight. Zlatan Ibrahimovic made his season debut on the hour mark as a sub, and just seven minutes later he put the game away with a tap-in to make it 2-0:
With the win, Milan continue to prove their quality and status as a league contender, while Lazio failed to show their magic in attack, having trouble finding space centrally while going forward.
Both will have European matches this week that you can see live on Paramount+, while Milan facing Liverpool on Wednesday in UCL. Lazio will take on Galatasaray on Thursday in Europa League.
